Why keep your word, when you can just as easily break it?
The word-users that arrive somewhere on purpose — as opposed to nowhere on no purpose — have two things going for them. A vision and a habit of keeping their word.
They may have other things going for them, too, but they certainly have the above two.
VISION
Vision is a dream taken seriously.
When you take a dream seriously, it tells you WHAT to do to get from where you are to where you want to be. First thing first, the vision tells you WHAT to do. But it doesn’t tell you HOW which you’ll figure out after you take the first step and get started with the WHAT.
When among your many dreams, you decide to pursue the most cherished one seriously, you cannot know if you’re going be around long enough to see it be achieved. You’ve only just started with a long term work in progress that may well last forever and a day. All you know is that each day will come in portions of 24 hours, a gift from above that you have no control over. When it’s gone, it’s lost forever. You hope for the best. Maybe you even hope that time’s on your side?
Buddha used to say “the trouble is, you think you have time”. But what did Buddha know about time?
You’re the boss of your vision, but time is a gift from above you don’t boss around.
WORD
That’s where keep your word gets in. You keep it despite the fact that elsewhere, word-users breaking their word all day long.
Keep your word is part of the deal. That’s how the cards are dealt. The price to pay for being the owner of a vision.
TAKEAWAY
Word-users that arrive somewhere on purpose have two things going for them. A vision, and keeping their word. They may have other things going for them, too, but they certainly have these two.
Should you require additional reasons for the importance of owning vision and keeping your word, below is a selection of what visionaries more famous than I are saying.
“Vision is the course one follows to make dreams reality. Vision strengthens us to be committed. Vision gives significance to the otherwise meaningless details of our lives. Without vision, good things will hinder us from achieving the best things. A clear vision, along with the courage to follow through, dramatically increases our chances of coming to the end of our life looking back with a deep abiding satisfaction, and thinking, I did it, I succeeded, I finished well, my life counted.” – Andy Stanley
“Everybody ends up somewhere in life, and a few people end up somewhere on purpose. Those are the ones with vision.” – Andy Stanley
“People without clear vision are easily distracted, have a tendency to drift from one idea to another, and often make foolish decisions that rob them of their dreams.” – Andy Stanley
“Cherish your visions as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.” – Napoleon Hill
“Every person takes the limits of their field of vision for the limits of the world.” – Arthur Schopenhauer
“I don’t believe consciousness is generated in the brain any more than television programs are made inside my TV. The box is too small.” – Terence McKenna
“Knowing that you have fulfilled your highest vision is the ultimate pleasure.” – Tony Robbins
“Once we have clarified our vision, many decisions are already made.” – Walt Disney
“Revision is re-vision. You’re seeing it anew.” – Margaret Atwood
“Since our vision is so limited, let’s go!” – Rumi
“The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it.” – Thucydides
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.” – James Michener
“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” – Helen Keller
“Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.” – Jonathan Swift
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” – Word masters
“Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be. Your Ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.” – James Allen
“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside awakens.” – Carl Jung
