Hunger stones are warnings of not enough to eat down the road. Practically speaking, they are large stones visible only during droughts and lack of rain. During normal times, they are out of sight deep below the waters of rivers and lakes.
“Whoever sees me now will weep,” says one of them.
The hunger stones are nothing but an artifact of the past now, of course. Nevertheless, I’ve been around the block long enough to know the idea of warnings is still relevant today.
I think everybody ought to have a personal hunger stone, naturally, to each their own. A favorite of mine:
