Each of us is on their journey from where we are to somewhere.
For some the journey is a rolling stone’s, with no direction home. For others it’s the journey of arriving somewhere on purpose.
What to believe is a question of character and personal preferences, to each their own. That explains why some word-users don’t believe the two types of journey exist, free for the taking. There are always those that believe and those that don’t. It’s a question of age.
There is a decision no one else can make for you, the decision to journey on the highway or the road less traveled. It’s this decision more than any other that separates the many from the few.
On purpose
To end up somewhere on purpose you must have a clear vision of that somewhere you hope to arrive on purpose. This is similar to living in your dream house. You wouldn’t start building your dream house without committing your plan for your dream house to paper first. Or else it would be built on your mood swings rather than your vision.
Vision
If you don’t currently have a vision of where you want to arrive on purpose, ask yourself these questions …
- What breaks your heart?
- What keeps you up at night?
- What must be now that isn’t yet?
- Why do you exist?
- What’s your purpose?
The answers are the breadcrumbs that lead to your vision, a step at a time. Even with seven league boots on your feet, don’t expect it to happen overnight. To get hold of your vision takes patience and time.
- “I am not what happened to me, I am what I decide to become.” – Carl Jung
- “Where is fancy bred, in the heart or in the head?” – Shakespeare
- “Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside awakens.” – Carl Jung
- “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” – Michelangelo
You must look into your heart and like Michelangelo be ready to carve your vision free.
You don’t yet know how long it’ll take, but only when you have the courage to follow through are you ready for your vision, and your vision for you.
Your vision will always be in contrast to the status quo.
Whether you’re a parent, CEO, or solopreneur, you get there not now but in time.
But when your vision is clear, many decisions are already made.
