Word-users crave comfort for good reason.

Like all animals we prefer to be safe on our journeys from birth do death.
But if you know what’s also good for you, here’s one truth you better pay attention to.

Growth

Growth — personal or professional — doesn’t happen inside the comfort zone.
To unlock your potential and be alive, you must embrace discomfort.

You must acquire the habit of getting a little uncomfortable.
Not in a rollercoaster kind of way, but in the kind that feels slightly scary and exciting at the same time.

Discomfort is the gateway to growth, resilience, and adaptability — three traits that are invaluable in creating the life of your dreams.

Understand

When you understand the extraordinary gifts of the inevitable discomfort, you celebrate it and cherish comfort at the same time because they’re both omens of new beginnings and spectacular growth.
You stop chasing comfort and start pursuing horizons you so far only know the limits of.

Starting my business forced me into the discomfort of making mistakes and facing my fears. It wasn’t easy at first but then the unexpected happened,  it began to feel familiar and got easier.
Uncertainty became less intimidating and failures don’t feel like the end of the world anymore. They are now the stepping stones to growth instead.
I feel comfortable in discomfort now and I have more energy in the tank which is incredibly freeing.

Curious, confident, and energised — isn’t that the kind of journey we all want to be on?

I’m not saying you should seek discomfort for its own sake. All I’m saying is let discomfort be your guide.
Try the new thing, take the risk, say it out loud, build the thing. Even or especially if it gives you the thrills.

How do you start?

  • Start small.
  • Write something and share it.
  • Take on a project that excites and scares you at the same time.
  • Speak up in a meeting.
  • Message that word-user you admire.

The more you do it, the more comfortable it gets. While growth and comfort rarely coexist, discomfort and aliveness go hand in hand. Each small step outside your comfort zone builds momentum and before you know it, growth becomes second nature.

Do it

Abandon short-term safety in exchange for long-term freedom.
It’s is the price to pay for the life of your dreams.
Give it a try.
Step out a little.
You don’t need to leap.
A step at a time works just fine.

You’ve got this!

What will your next brave move be?
